If you ran the risk of not insuring you may well be considered unlucky but that was a personal choice which you should now stand by. Little sympathy from me. |

Theres people in the middle of Tauranga asking for benefits even though the Oil doesnt effect them. There ARE some people that need the benefit, that i can understand..but the people who are nowhere near the beaches? Bunch of beggars in my opinion. |

Im confused, again :rolleyes: Arnt the govt(us) paying them for the salvage operation ??? If they are getting paid by us, how can they charge us again ?? Any $$ should go back to the govt. |

| 1246423 | 2011-12-01 08:32:00 | As far as I'm aware this comes under the maritime salvage laws nothing to do with consumersaffairs. I think this would come under an international salvage law. The NZ government doesn't have to pay a cent. It is the ships owners who should be paying the salvors. :) |

| 1246424 | 2011-12-01 10:27:00 | I had a container full of personal effects sent from the UK a while ago. There was a clear choice as to whether I insured it for loss / damage or not. The moaning people they showed on TV tonight with a lounge full of no furniture and a $50k bill if they want their container back chose not to insure. Their choice, their fault, their loss. Any other solution would probably have its costs filter back down in increased premiums for the people that actually get insured. My opinion only of course, but the insurance cost is not significant compared to the overall shipping charges so if you take the risk, you take the loss. |
