| 1245951 | 2011-12-02 00:50:00 | If you think a $7-10 battery wil be any good you are still living in the same fantasy world that led you to buy that phone. Cheap Lithium Ion batteries have a life expectancy shorter than that of a hedgehog on an Auckland Motorway at rush hour. In just about everything electronic, cheap means chinese fake, and you are lucky if it lasts until you get out the door of the shop. Anything more than that is a bonus. Cheers Billy 8-{) Ok I guess that means that you suggest I send it back then? Sounds like a f**cking good idea. |

But given the age of my phone, paying full price for a possibly 5yr old "NEW" batt would be a bit silly. :p |

However, all rechargeable batteries have a shelf life on their initial charge and any battery more than a two or three years old may well be suspect, or flat. Well-manufactured batteries can surprise you though, I have two Uniden walkie talkies that are now well in excess of 10 years old. Their NiCad batterries refuse to die and hold a working level of charge for periods in excess of two years. When I remember, I hook up the chargers and take them back to full capacity again. So anyway, how long have you been using this $1 marvel, and how many recharges has it had. :devil Cheers Billy 8-{) |

New batteries could have been on the shelf for 5+ years. That new batt may be at the end of its usefull life, despite being never used , especially if its for an old/obselete phone . NiCads are actually very robust & can be revived after sitting flat for a long time.Thats why they are still being used in some devices, despite partial a ban in some EU countries NiMh batts dont like being discharged below (approx) .9v per cell Lipos can be permanently damaged from being discharged too low. All batts will self discharge over time. Some quicker than others. They may self discharge to a voltage that is too low , over time. Also ,Unused Lipo have/had a life expectancy approx 5(?) years from when they where made, regardless if they are being used or not. So a new in box lipo , could easily be near the end of its usefull life. Hence $1 sell price. My $1 has been running fine for about 6 months. Its $1 . It was worth a punt. either that or bin the phone. |
