1245850 2011-11-30 21:54:00 Just a passing afterthought:

How many actual posters (as opposed to browsers) in this thread (of either or any persuasion) have actually read 'The God Delusion',
Cheers

Not me, I consider him in the same category as TV preachers, Just repeating the same dribble over and over in different ways, He needs a hobby.

That aside, Books on the subject are in my view completely redundant, The entire concept of a Christian god is quite clearly a fairy tale, and the question as to whether or not there is a creator is at this stage unanswerable, so, that only leaves Faith Vs Fact( and depending on outlook either one completely over rules the other) and arguments about something we can't possibly know.

1245851 2011-11-30 23:21:00 I am an infrequent Church goer, but when I do I am told of God, Jesus and The Holy Ghost. I have yet to find out who the Holy Ghost is.
Can anyone enlighten me?

My understanding of, "The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost," is that they are all the one person (or entity) in the same way that one person can be a father, a son and a grandfather.

It is a difficult concept. Hopefully that make it a little easier to understand.

1245852 2011-12-01 01:14:00 What a waste of time this thread has turned out to be. Only one person has attempted to answer the question - the rest of you are simply postering!

All these futile efforts to try to prove that God does not exist are just that - futile. It will make no difference what arguments that you put forward to refute God's existence as the Christians or any other religious people, because their faith cannot be shaken, are not going to take any notice of what you say. They will just brand you atheists or agnostics and carry on as before.

Similarly, anyone who tries to convince you that Christianity, or any other religion, is real and that God does exist, will find that they cannot shake your belief that it is all rubbish. You will just brand these people religious zealots and you too, will carry on as before.

So what is the point? There is no point in arguing this subject as neither side will be persuaded. You are all just preaching to the converted.

As Metla has said, perhaps you need a hobby.

Hold on there cowboy, Don't use my name or words to try and stifle discussion, this is after all a discussion board, and the views, experiences and opinions of the very people you are trying to silence are what make it a place worth visiting.

Even the church can't agree on the nature of the holy trinity, and as noted even trying to define it has caused division and bloodshed in the past.

1245855 2011-12-01 04:08:00 Not trying to stifle discussion at all. I simply pointed out that the original question was not being answered. The thread has been hijacked by people who have something against religion and have joined together to put their opinion forward that all religion is rubbish. For it to be a discussion you require an opposition but I have not seen any opinions refuting anything that the non-believers have said.

I reiterate: There is no point to this thread. The non-believers are telling everyone yet again (yawn!) all the faults of religion. It's like a mutual admiration society. It becomes all very tedious and boring.

So far only your posts in this thread have a high suck factor . Haven't you got a table leg or a chair you can complain to?

The difference between the believers and non-believers is elegantly simple, non-believers don't care what believers think . They are not interested in converting others, or raping and pillaging in the name of their chosen idol, because they don't have one, and nor do they believe that they need one to live a moral and proper life .

'Non-believers' are united on one issue though, they don't agree with the genocide inflicted on innocent people in the names of various competing Gods . As I have mentiond on previous occasions, there are literally thousands of deities worshipped around this planet, but if we exclude the obscure minorities there are still at least 12 major religions and a significant number of prominent minorities .

They can't all be right, and Christianity represents a tiny minority in that tally of adherents, guaranteed to be well outnumbered by Atheists, Agnostics and 'Heathens', the latter being all those subscribing to religions not recognised by so-called 'christian' faiths .

The point to this thread, and the raison d'etra behind it, is that we are fortunate to live in a society that is tolerant, non-sectarian and we are free to discuss and debate any topic we please without fear of retribution from thought police, religious fanatics, mullahs or any other vested interests dependent on mind control for their wealth and power .

Very noticeable that when you can't think of anything intelligent to say you stoop to personal insults. Tells a lot about your character - or lack of.
