Yeah that's not actually a bad point considering I think PBTech does the Apacer ones for ~$80, probably around the cost of a DVD player...

Thanks - yes it does help. Actually with everything going digital hopefully we'll see some throw away prices on non-freeview tvs!

1269576 2012-04-13 00:59:00 There are hardware digital media players, some that connect to external dives that should play on almost any kind of monitor. Amazon sells plenty. WD (www.gadgetadvisor.com) make them. Maybe get one that streams photo's say from Flickr and display on your monitor. Some do that for old laptops, converted and used as a digital frame display.

Thanks - that sounds to best option for going with a stand alone monitor. Through the responses here I'm heading toward a tv instead but a media player would work there as well!

Thanks for the heads up on the Apacer player. The plan at the moment is to get a cheap LCD-LED tv with usb input, then use usb thumb drive in the first instance and then if need be look at a media player.

Thanks a USB flash drive should be sufficient at this point but a media player certainly opens up the options!
