1246700 2011-12-02 06:31:00 Started off with a hiss and a roar but the speed has come back quite a bit in the last hour, or is it because the whole family visiting tonight and we have five or six Laptop/PC's downloading lol. Twelvevolts (5457)
1246701 2011-12-02 06:37:00 Perhaps Telstra's put in a bit more grunt and is trialling, lol.

No lag here yet.

Anyone doing family history on Ancestry or others ?.

1246702 2011-12-02 06:49:00 Um, just started a steam install (Dirt 3 - 11.8gig), started off at 1.3Mb/s for the first 750Mb, then dropped like a rock to 300Kb/s steady. I wouldnt mind betting they are monitoring the system and throttling any heavy usage. It might be unmetered, but no mention that they might throttle it, I hope they arent. Iantech (16386)

Results for your host (yeah.. nahh):
Is your upload traffic rate limited?

The measurement data is too noisy to detect whether your ISP rate limits your upload traffic. Re-running the test while ensuring that no other downloads or uploads are running in the background might fix this problem.

1246704 2011-12-02 20:42:00 Good Morning Guys, our free broadband weekend is proving incredibly popular. As we predicted, the high numbers of people taking advantage of this opportunity to make the most of the internet will inevitably slow speeds and create some congestion. We expect this to be intermittent as demand ebbs and flows, and understand the frustrations this may create for some. Our technicians continue to monitor the network 24/7 and we'll be considering all your comments in our review. Cheers Tim. TelstraClear (16645)

I'm pretty sure they said they wouldn't throttle anyone. As far as I'm concerned Telstra haven't really set a major foot wrong since that terrible internet + phone plan we are on a long time ago. Cheaper internet but huge charges on all calls  Needless to say I hope they have ditched that one.

Good on Telstra for fronting up and saying "hello".

One would expect Telstra to slow down a bit, not to often ISP's give away free data -- Mind you, got usage meters on the PC's here, might be interesting to see how much was actually used after the weekend :)

There are a couple of members here who work for Microsoft, but of course dont actually represent MS on the forum.

1246707 2011-12-03 00:34:00 Hey Tim,

Great to have you on the Forums!

Just curious to know what TelstraClear is going to be doing about their bandwidth (Predominantly to international sites), I presume you've already got yourself a ton more than you'd usually require, and will be looking to increase it as the demand will no doubt increase as more people jump onboard to take advantage of this plan / offer?

Are all customers sharing this same 'pool' of data, and do you have any plans to implement any QoS or prioritization? I have a few clients who run large VoIP systems over their TelstraClear broadband and are concerned it may adversely affect performance if the amount everybody is using increases dramatically over the weekend. Same for a couple of Cyber Cafes I know who use TelstraClear for gaming, worry it may affect their latency / overall throughput etc...
Does TelstraClear believe that will be an issue? If the likes of Telecoms BigTime is anything to go by?

Yeah, the guy from Open Office was pretty interactive for a while, and very helpful (except them getting it to pick up the first line of a document as a file name when you "Save As")

1246709 2011-12-03 06:29:00 Have to say for the last few hours it has been a real dog, has so far taken four hours to download a 350 MB episode of Diggnation. Tried doing an upgrade to Nero but it spat the dummy and gave an error code due to insufficient downlaod speed.

But it was brilliant in the wee small hours, was watching in awe about 5 am as stuff zipped through at warp speed.
