1270091	2012-04-14 22:53:00	Hey ya guys Was wondering if I can get some suggestion or thoughts on alternative PSU to the commonly used ATX PSU. Or recommendation on very cheap and silent PSU (btw I am aware of the inverse law where as noise goes down, price goes UP, so Im looking for suggestions ^^) My situation is that Im planning to build a budget fileserver (4x 3.5" HDDs) with noise and power consumption as my main priority to keep it low as possible. Budget is real tight, hoping to squeeze it under $400 (no gfx card) I have been thinking of going for ASRock E350M motherboard with built-in AMD E350 APU, powered by a PICO PSU, to keep the noise to a minimal. However due to PICO PSU's selection of volts, 12V-30V, it means the AMP requirement is fairly high, which sadly the socket/area that I am going to use it in cant have too much AMP drawing out of the socket as it is near its max. Another reason why Im looking for alternatives to ATX PSUs is purely the size of ATX PSU are too clumsy in HTPC environments. As well the case will be built from grounds up (literally) I dont want something too big, maybe something like the Silverstone ST45SF would be nice. Thoughts? Suggestions? 1270092	2012-04-15 01:57:00	May be me reading this wrong, but do you want just the PSU or the whole unit, and what do you already have in the way of components ? Where you mention $400 budget, if you dont have any HDD's and plan to run 4 then theres the whole budget gone ( and more) on those alone.	wainuitech (129)
1270093	2012-04-15 02:00:00	Yeah sorry about that, forgot to mention that I already have the 4x HDD, the $400 budget is purely for mb, ram, psu and the case. htpc cases are bit too much for my budget still will be finding material to build it from grounds up, expecting to spend maybe around $80 for the case materials. thanks	CCF (6760)
