1269980 2012-04-14 09:04:00 I recently replaced my mother board to Asus p8 Z77-V Pro

I'm currently using a Nvdia Palit GTX 580 1.5GB Graphics card with an i5 2500k

I have 12GB of ram

8GB is 1600MHZ DDR3
4GB is 1333MHZ DDR3

I play a bit of games, Battle Field 3, Left 4 dead 2, Dead space 2, Resident evil etc.

Is there any benefit of upgrading to say DDR3-1866 or DDR3-2133?

In wikipedia DDR3-1866 has letters like J,K,L,M next to it
Is there any difference between them?

Last question, what do the CL8, CL9 OC meant to mean?

Thanks

1269981 2012-04-14 09:25:00 12GB ***!!!

No, you can forget about blowing even more money on RAM.

The CL is a memory timing feature, CAS Latency.

The smaller the number the better, within the limits of your MOBO.

I can't speak for the CL on such fast RAM as you have, but on the older DDR that I'm familiar with a CL of 2, 2.5 or 3 is typical, and a CL of 8 or 9 would be considered lousy.

However, this may not be the case on DDR3 1600

1269982 2012-04-14 09:51:00 I'm thinking of taking the 4GB out and leave the 8GB in.

Hmm... not much impact would it? since I havent seen any games or anything using more than 2GB of ram.

1269983 2012-04-14 10:14:00 RAM speed has a tiny impact on games, you could game on 4GB of 1066 and not notice the difference most of the time. I'd go with the 8GB just because mixing RAM can cause stability problems and 8GB is plenty for current games. Also that will mean you can run it at 1600 if you want to because right now the system will be set to run at the 1333 speed of the slower RAM. Unless you manually set it to 1600 it will default to the i5's default speed which I think is either 1066 or 1333. On my P67 board I have to enable XMP to get the RAM to run at 1600 but to be honest I can't tell the difference. dugimodo (138)

Am I right in assuming the ram is in two slots. If so you would be better off getting another 8GB at 1600MHZ DDR3 and ditching the 4gb as the way I understand it your 8gb will be slowing down to the 4gb chip and the two working together is much better.
