What is arguable is how to interpret the information Most of the 7.7 trillion was in short-term loans which were backed up by the receiving companies if they couldn't repay. Add up all these loans and you get the 7.7 trillion figure (supposedly!) So the Govt lent money to the big banks (Goldman Sachs, Citigroup etc) which was paid back. Though along the way the banks used the loan money to generate 13 billion in income IMHO the scandal here is that these loan programs were kept secret from just about everyone - to 'protect confidence' in the big banks. This was no doubt done at the request of the banks themselves For a humourous take watch this clip www.thedailyshow.com Clearly these financial institutions get this special treatment as they've become too big to fail Just based on my readthrough of what's been put online so far |

And they are lending and promising money they don't have. This is why France is dead scared - it does not have any money. And they say China has 3 trillion in reserves to save the west. It may well do, but it is not under a mattress ! - It is invested in other banks and investments etc , so they can't draw it out tomorrow even if they wanted to. And what money would replace it ? That said Capitalism is still the best system, we just need to go back to the Gold standard. |
