1245767 2011-11-27 00:58:00 If you work with large servers, maybe convince your employer to use them as home heaters. Interesting research from Microsoft and Virginia University (www.nytimes.com) to use data centers at home as furnaces. kahawai chaser (3545)
1245768 2011-11-27 01:46:00 A lot of risk involved with having them "off site" perhaps underneath a hotel or in the businesses own premises would be a better idea since then its a bit easier to apply security measures The Error Guy (14052)
1245769 2011-11-27 02:13:00 Yes security would be an issue if offsite housing, but then maybe Microsoft has employee cluster housing around or near their premises to help prevent/retain data security within their physical boundaries. kahawai chaser (3545)
1245770 2011-11-27 02:45:00 Even one desktop computer can make a nice difference in my bedroom, if the weather isn't too cold. Agent_24 (57)
1245771 2011-11-27 03:48:00 Ohhh.. I like it.... Server farms coupled to tomato greenhouses!!! KarameaDave (15222)

1245773 2011-11-27 06:16:00 Really? KarameaDave (15222)
1245774 2011-11-27 07:02:00 Yeah they ran something about it in PCPP. I''l try to find the article online. icow (15313)
1245775 2011-11-27 19:15:00 Really?
Yup. There was a guy (not sure if we are talking about the same story, icow) where during the foundation laying process, he placed some heating coils through the base. The heating coils led to one particular point of the house which would eventually be connected to the heat outlet of his computers.

I think he posted a few pictures of what he did on an OZ forum.

Cheers :)

1245776 2011-11-28 04:13:00 DIY forum (www.diychatroom.com) with diagram for home use server heating. IBM started a project for heating up a Tech in Zurich (www.zurich.ibm.com) mid 2009, and a Finland IT company did similar for a old bomb shelter. (www.guardian.co.uk) kahawai chaser (3545)
