A friend told me they meant you couldnt change lane .

But since then , looking at how many roads are marked , that would make some parts of roads near impossible to use
eg a local merging lane : its solid while for more than 3/4 of the merging lanes length. You really want to get out of merging lanes as soon as poss, not wait till last secound
eg right hand turn : turning lane marked in solid white except for a tiny section: you would have to stop & slowly maneuver through that small non solid white selection
eg solid white in the middle of 2 opposing lanes (2 lane road) . If it was intended not to cross that solid white , there would be double yellow ?

I allways thought non-solid white was just to save paint .

next question:
Can you cross a solid yellow to make a right hand turn, say into a driveway . Ive assumed no .

1470750 2020-07-27 03:38:00 As I understand it it's a lane divider and used on corners to mark the center of the road, also used around intersections. Solid yellow lines are used as no passing lines. Yes you can cross a solid yellow line to right turn into a driveway otherwize how do you get into it. paulw (1826)

Thats what I used to do , to get to my old work adress (a residential Street , it wasnt unsafe doing it).
Perhaps I was meant to drive a big 5 minute loop to get to the other side of the road without crossing double yellow ?

1470752 2020-07-27 05:34:00 Solid yellow lines are used as no passing lines. Solid yellow lines do not mean no passing. What they do mean is that you are allowed to pass if you do not cross the solid yellow line. While that effectively means no passing in most cases, where there are two lanes to the left of the solid yellow line you are permitted to pass. And a double yellow line means no U turn. 1470753 2020-07-27 06:33:00 A solid white line is to demark traffic lanes where traffic is being directed to stay in the lane. These lines should not be crossed as they are designed to direct traffic flow in a particular direction, often towards a motorway on-ramp or off-ramp.

A double yellow line means no passing in ether direction not a no U turn..

You obviously did not read what I wrote! You are not allowed to cross a yellow line. I said that you are allowed to pass as long as while doing so you do not cross the yellow line. Wake up!

is your friend from europe?
some countries over there have a rule that you cannot cross a solid white line.
we see them every now and then as tourists who try to miss all the lines on a turning bay. (to lazy to read the rule book i guess).

Go past your driveway and safely somewhere turn around then turn into your driveway like you are supposed to. The yellow lines are there for a reason thats its not safe to cross so only a numbnutz would.

You said you can't do a U turn on a double yellow line which is wrong. Show me in the roadcode that statement.
