Shall I stick to Masport brand or shall I change to those brands from Bunnings? Better to buy from Bunnings /Mitre10 or from those specialised retailers? Your views and suggestions, please. |

I bought from a specialised retailer about 18 years ago....mostly as the bodies on the cheap ones is cheap steel and rusts. |

When I had a steel bodied mower, I went through 3 bodies (rust) . My Alu bodied mower is 20years old & still going strong So look at body & brand of motor, rather than brand of Mower. I would get something with a Honda engine , wont be cheap though. Too much power is better than not enough , if your grass gets long between mows . |

| 1470390 | 2020-07-14 23:39:00 | I went electric and love it, but it's not going to last 24 years, I'd be surprised if it lasts more than 5. If it's something you'd consider I have this one www.bunnings.co.nz The only issue have with it is the battery release mechanism is poorly designed and requires strong hands. Great if your section is under 800m2, not really any good for larger sections. Mine is an 800m2 corner section with road frontage on 2 sides and I can almost mow it all on one battery if I keep it short. I've also had a plastic bodied Ryobi and it was better than expected but I'd only recommend that for small sections or for people who struggle to push a normal mower around as they are really light and easily managed. Advantages no pull cord No oil / air cleaner / spark plus Can tip in any direction to clean Quiet (but maybe not as quiet as you expect) No servicing other than blades No fumes Disadvantages Takes a few hours to recharge both batteries once flat Battery can be hard to remove (AEG specifically) A little less power for really long grass (never been an issue) Run time reduces significantly when loaded up with long grass Will not be running in 24 years Edit: A note on the steel body issue - not going to matter with a battery mower IMHO as the batteries are likely to become an issue long before the body and you'll likely have to replace the mower a lot more often. I still love the thing, and although running a mower is cheap anyway these are so sheap it's essetially free. You won't notice a change in your power bill unless you mow daily. |
