1465494 2019-12-09 05:24:00 My lady friend every so often gets a pop up saying "Welcome to your new Office" which drives her nuts.

It wants her to install/use MS Office which she does NOT want. She uses the free OpenOffice instead.

How does one get rid of this annoying nag? We've searched Google for answers but no luck!

Thanks in advance.

1465495 2019-12-09 05:37:00 Windows 10? If so there’s probably an office tile somewhere, which you can right click and click uninstall. Should remove the prompts. psycik (12851)
1465496 2019-12-09 05:44:00 Sorry no window Tile.
Also no item in the list of programs.
Thanks anyhow.

1465499 2019-12-09 07:35:00 Simple:

MS Excel viewer
MS Word viewer (which she uses frequently)
MS ppt viewer (which she uses frequently)

These programs (or open Office) need to be set as the defaults.

Keep in mind, viewers are JUST THAT "to View /Read" you cant edit or create the files.

Whats happening is when ever a Word, Excel or Power Point is being opened the defaults are Microsoft Office, so its trying to install it.

In other words its doing EXACTLY what its being told to do.

Don't think so because it doesn't come up when she uses any of the viewers.

It only comes up OCCASIONALLY when the computer is booted. It doesn't come up every time the computer is booted.

Thanks anyhow.

PS It's not in the startups

PS It's not in the startups You didn't mention that before. Pays to give ALL the information when asking for help.

First thing, with this new info is at some stage office was clicked on and tried to open, hence it now wants to run, its not actually office its the "click to run" This is why you may not see it in the programs, as it has to download it after that pop up.

It could be taken out Via the registry, BUT I'm not giving instructions as its in several places and I'm not going to be responsible if something goes wrong.

Possible Solution: One simple way to stop it, is actually install it, then uninstall.

Another is to go into the apps, look for Get Office - if its there, uninstall it.

While its mentioned W10, its not mentioned what Build /Version. Some settings are in slightly different locations for different builds.

1465502 2019-12-09 19:21:00 You might also try going to Settings > System > Notifications & Actions and disable the option called “Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows”. CliveM (6007)
1465503 2019-12-09 20:57:00 You need to COMPLETELY remove the MS Office app from Win10, its in there twice (sometimes)

from memory , settings ; apps , it can be in there in more than 1 place . Uninstall it from there
do for all users that login to that Win10 (if more than 1 users a/c's)

then , as above, change the default app for .doc , .docx etc . In settings , apps , default apps by file type (from memory)
