1471313 2020-08-22 08:11:00 It is a prion. The incubation period can be extremely long (up to 40 years) before symptoms manifest, hence the NZ Blood Service donor policy. Jen (38)

Yeah donating blood will solve it, whatever "it" is.

1471315 2020-08-22 10:27:00 As a simple analogy, if you imagine that the molecules etc which go to make up a brain's structure are composed of slinky toys arranged in complex ways and also interwoven together a prion disease will return the 'slinky molecules' back to the original simple form of the slinky and will not allow reassembly.

A catastrophic event for anyone who has a brain that is infected. Prions are also very robust and cannot be destroyed by cooking hence the cautious approach.

Can't you get tested for it before then?

1471319 2020-09-14 06:36:00 Taking blood test would reveal all the details you want.. If you are asking this for blood donation, you don't need to know it yourself first..They test all the things including your weight before donation SabrinaF (17716)
