But there is nothing to say you can't enjoy a vegan sausage too! If you put aside the name and any negative perceptions etc, then: A vegan sausage is basically just chopped up soybeans, which isn't much different to how a hash-brown is chopped potato, a falafel is chopped chickpeas, a kumara rosti is.. chopped kumara. If you enjoy any of the above, why not try the sausage? You may find it an enjoyable food item as well - which is no reason to stop enjoying meat sausage as well, if you like those. |

Makes no sense to me. Some may be people who are changing to a vegetarian/vegan diet and want something that tastes familiar to begin with while they make a change. They may choose other options later on. Or some people who really love the taste of meat but who just don't want to eat actual meat for ethical reasons, health reasons, or other concerns. For example, I love the taste of fish but I try to limit my consumption of it due to concerns over pollution (heavy metals and microplastics etc) and the problem of over-fishing. As an alternative, I quite enjoy Gardein fish-less fillets, but still indulge in real fish sometimes too (Yes, you can have both - why not!) However, I don't really like most vegetable-based meat alternatives that actually try to taste like meat. They are too over-processed and never quite taste the same anyway. Though as an exception to that, I can't stand real chicken, but I love Quorn, which has a similar texture, though tastes quite different. I find overall there is a much better flavour and less processing in vegan foods that just simply stay true to the actual ingredients. A black-bean and beetroot burger patty that's honest about itself tastes much better than something pretending to be steak, in my opinion. |
