1470636 2020-07-22 21:26:00 $100,000, you were ripped off every which way,

Ooops. $10,000

1470637 2020-07-24 00:01:00 That's better.

New company car is depreciated over 5 years, so the $100,000 would be reduced by $40,000 for 2 years.

It was an insurance company we were agents for, that got me into the marriage game, National Insurance in Napier (now California Firemen's I think), going back to 1949 details is pretty hard on the think box.

Worked for W&K at the time and was offered 200 pounds more a year, to go and work for National share registry in Dunedin and that's where I met the other half.

As if I'd pay $100K for a car....not.

1470639 2020-07-24 06:28:00 Wishful thinking ehhh, daughter keeps telling me to get a BMW!!!. Elder brother left enough in his will for a flash car, but I am thinking of splitting it 4 ways for the G/kids Kiwisaver startup accounts, but like my late father's money, it took ages for the two kids of ours to set-up bank accounts for them for that payout.

Finding a job is going to be tough enough in the future, once all the Kiwis' have come back permanently, let alone all those foreigners' coming out to a safe country.

The main issue with european cars is the pita doing repairs.
Son bought a Mercedes, the idiot.
After the neighbour backed into it, it took ages to get replacement panels from Germany.
Now it's going back in to have a windscreen, ditto....more parts having to come from overseas.

Reliability? Who knows, but I wouldn't.

I'll stick with Toyota until such time as I am rich.

Actually getting my wof the other day, I was wandering about the showroom and I like the CH-R.
Totally impractical, too small, utterly stupid idea, but I don't know, it's pretty.

And I tell people to never buy a car for pretty.

Haha.

Getting parts out the US is about the same cost as most jap parts here but you do have to wait for them. The appeal of european cars here is that they depreciate so badly that if you buy a 5-10 year old one you get so many creature comforts and a high quality of finish for not a lot of money. You'd only be sensible to buy a new one if it was a tax write off. 20 year old ones are the sweet spot. I'm currently looking for e39 540i as a weekend car. A lot of car for less than 10k.

It's 10 years old.

I'm not a fan more for this sort of thing:

1470643 2020-07-25 06:52:00 Every decent mechanic in NZ will tell you the nineties on European, Korean, Chinese, American, current Nissan, Jeep, Chrysler, all General Motors vehicles are ****. If you want reliability buy a Toyota or Mazda and I have never owned a Toyota just a line of Fords 31 Model A, 49 and 51 E93A Prefect, 55 100E Anglia, 73 XA Coon and now I am on my third Ford KA. I did have a Series 1 RX7 12A Savannah for the record for about 5 years but the gas consumption was something to write home about. I swear on the Canterbury straights when near 200 KPH I could see the fuel gage needle falling. Toyota and Mazda reliable but boring. prefect (6291)
