1471135 2020-08-30 05:25:00 Actually there is an article about Taiwan today in the news.
24 million people, 500 odd cases, 7 deaths. No lockdowns, economy increased 2 %.

So no, it isn't necessary.
They didn't just ignore it

www.cnbc.com

If you want the details....

i think they where one of the few countries that slammed the border shut early on.
there is a few countries that have done it right.

and your absolutely right in that lockdowns are not required if you keep it out.
the problem here was they refused to close the border, relying on a little card saying to self isolate, which was blatantly ignored.
the govt didn't choose to go into lockdown, that was forced on us due to the woefully under prepared health sector whose testing and tracing capability was proven to be hopeless.
there is no way they could have kept up with the amount of cases that would have been arriving and spreading it.
even now the border has been proven to be leaky because govt cannot get the job done right.

the other factor is how complaint the society is. just look at how much lockdown is ignored in nz, that would never be tolerated in taiwan. just a difference of culture.

i've said it before, lockdowns where easily avoidable if govt was doing its job right.

1471136 2020-08-30 22:21:00 2 of the people that escaped quarenteen have been to court

1 escaped to go & buy booze: he was sentenced to 40 hours community service .
1 escaped to go to her dead fathers tangi : she went to jail.

guess which one was brown. hint the brown person went to jail .
Definite BS with the sentencing here, somehow escaping to by booze is not as bad as escaping because of a death in the family.
Blatant racism in the court system .

1471140 2020-08-31 18:47:00 The below link is great, but the short version:

The rest of the country didn't seem to be too impressed, as they called for Aucklanders to stay put.

"Aucklanders are exploding out into the rest of NZ like a huge uncovered sneeze," a user tweeted.

"DEAR AUCKLANDERS. Stay in Auckland! We don't want you in Taupo, Cambridge, Tauranga, Rotorua. Stay away along with your yuppy black puffer jackets, fake fur pom-poms, SUV roof pods, and your COVID-19 virus, risking community transmission FOR THE REST OF NEW ZEALAND."

.

Taiwan had a plan in place for years, which involved quarantines, contact tracing and wide availability of masks, among other things.

When Catherine Chou arrived in Taipei after flying from Los Angeles, authorities told her she would need to quarantine for two weeks. For Chou, a citizen, that meant booking herself into a hotel at her own expense, although subsidies are available and the government has paid stipends for some stays.

When she first arrived, she got a welcome package including dish soap, nail clippers and laundry detergent. Food was delivered to her doorstep. Several times a day, a representative of the local district’s office phoned her to check in and thank her for doing her part.

“They have professionals running the show,” she said. “These are people who have trained for years for this.”

“There was easy access to almost free and rapid testing centers,” said Han Jin, founder of a start-up in Taiwan called LucidPix. “At every building, including restaurants, gyms and offices, they check your temperature — and you cannot enter without face masks.”

There’s also enforcement for those who don’t follow the rules. There are huge fines if people are caught not wearing masks in designated areas, such as the subway, and for breaking quarantine.

Emanuel explained that everyone in Taiwan has a health-care record tied to their name, which allows their doctors and nurses to access their medical information online. That gives health officials near real-time data on hospital visits. From there, health officials were able to send alerts to doctors about their patients at higher risk for having the virus based on their travel history.

“They could closely monitor who had been to China and Wuhan,” he said. “And then test people who had been to China, as well as those with respiratory symptoms, which meant they could get ahead of a potential hotspot.”

. . . . . instead of telling people to stay home and "be kind" . . . . The trouble is its been proven time and time again, some people are plain bloody Stupid, and so far up themselves with the opinion of Self Righteous that the WONT stay at home and self isolate, they have the "It doesn't apply to me" Attitude .

Only have to watch the news to see people completely ignoring any suggestions /Advice .

THEN when it all turns around and bites them on the backside its Waaa waaaa waaa :crying
