if baabits is worried having to pay to get back, now they will have to scrap over the few available flights and spots in quarantine with migrant labor.

imho the issue is not so much about pay, its about who can do the job.
farming and horticulture is warming up for the season and a lot of them use migrant labor.

Jesus you really don't read do you. My objection was on principle, I have no problem voluntarily paying it if I have to come home as here I earn 3-4x what I would in NZ. Personally think that what Labour proposed strikes a fair balance.

I don't have an issue with any of that except for the pay the fee part. To be honest, I would happily pay the fee if it were voluntarily, but this is in principle.

No point trying to engage when you're being this disingenuous.

It's already been few available flights since April, friends have booked flights and they've been cancelled over and over again.

As for the US, the numbers are bad but life is pretty normal here in DC besides a few idiots who refuse to wear a mask. They're being dealt with swiftly however due to the fact they're not allowed entry to any shops without one on. Costco seems to have lower stock than normal though, and Uber Eats/Doordash/Grubhub are a lot busier than normal lol.

Life goes on, gotta stay positive. Could do with a good pie though, nowhere makes them like home :)

So, major NZ companies wont train Kiwis to do these skilled jobs , then complain they cant kiwi's locally to do these jobs .
And then immigrants come & work for 3-6 months. They work rediculous hours for low pay, making unrealistic expectations that locals can/should work long term for the same unsustainable hours & pay

I guess NZ's title of the No.1 country for ease of doing business isn't without merit..

Its not over yet, we dont know the final death toll . US deaths are still going strong from this
We also dont know the long term health effects of those who recovered .
Sure, its not the black death. But imagine this hitting South Auckland , the death toll could have been huge .

1470621 2020-08-11 06:22:00 You are right the people of South Auckland really didnt lock down like the rest of us, same as their brethren around the county. Did you see the "people" driving around in Kaitaia on TV miles from a supermarket being yelled at by a black doctor? If they wanted to visit someone and drink woodies or buy drugs they did. The black ex MP from the famous black family up North drove to visit his sister in Auckland with his mate. These "people" just did their own thing. We dodged a bullet only by incredible luck. prefect (6291)
