2019-12-06 01:05:00 | Hi. I have a friend in France doesn't speak / understand a word in English is 75.5 years of age. Has 64Bit system, 4GB RAM, I don't know what Make model her computer is (yet) so CPU and Graphics are unknown at the mo. The version of W7 she has is W7 Edition Familiale Premium (Family Premiun I assume) Wants to upgrade to W10.... I not sure what Version to get...Home or Pro???? Can you please supply a link to get the ISO for French vers W10..... question, instead of downloading the ISO can she (or can I in Teamviewer simply upgrade from W7 to W10...Instal as Downloading?????) That would be easiest and fastest. Thanks in advance. Garry

2019-12-06 01:27:00 | Just download the windows media creation too and use it to create an iso / flash drive for another PC. Pretty sure it picks the version based on the key you enter and you choose the language during install but if you need to specify it'll be Home most likely. | dugimodo (138) | |
2019-12-06 01:51:00 | As Dugimodo suggested just use the Media creation tool, BUT you don't have to download the ISO, instead if its W7 you should have the option to simply upgrade that computer, it will detect the correct version and download the full OS and upgrade, "should auto activate" if it doesn't then you need to do a fresh install using the W7 key. Allow at LEAST 4-6 Hours for it to do it. The following article tells you how as well www.zdnet.com EDITED: I don't need to be losing contact in TeamViewer during the upgrade. YOU WILL, its not possible to keep it running as when the upgrade installs it needs to reboot and run in Windows PE which you have NO OPTION as it WILL go into a blue window with the messages about upgrading do not turn off your computer etc. NO OPTION to keep a Network / remote connection going. when I did upgrade from W10 1903 to 1909 TOTALLY different task. Upgrading from 1903 to 1909 is more like the weekly cumulative updates.

2019-12-06 01:52:00 | dugimodo. hi. I was thinking about using the windows creation tool but for got to aask here if it would auto pick the version/language of her installed w7. Seems to be the simplest way to get the task done. From memory when I did upgrade from W10 1903 to 1909 it didn't reboot, that was from open Windows v1903 though. I don't need to be losing contact in TeamViewer during the upgrade. But, having said that the process is all done with no thing having to be done by the person doing the installation of W10. We give it a go tomorrow when she is awake. Thanks Garry Edit: thanks for the info on the lose connection in TeamViewer...will be guiding her in mobile messages...me using Translator :D thanks

2019-12-06 01:55:00 | wainuitech hi. Yeah I was wondering if she had that "Free upgrade W7 to W10' offer that was available when W10 was first released...we had the option to click to do it in our W7. Yep, I was hoping to be able to do the System Change to W10, keeping all apps etc without having to Dload the ISO. Do the upgrade 'on the fly' so to speak. cheers Garry

2019-12-06 03:10:00 | wainuitech hi. Yeah I saw your addition to your post and read/repled to it... a question re: upgrading her W7.. do I have to use the media creation tool? I tried it here and it started to download the ISO, then after that it will go to options of versions of W10 and what to keep etc.... I see on the W10 microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 site that there is an option to "Update now"..... can that be used instead and will it do the task on the fly? Or... is that Update now option only if W10 is already installed? I just read your latest addition about update from 1903 to 1909...ta Link is here www.microsoft.com

2019-12-06 03:19:00 | From the webpage "Using the tool to upgrade this PC to Windows 10 (click to show more or less information) Here’s when to use these instructions: You have a license to install Windows 10 and are upgrading this PC from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. You need to reinstall Windows 10 on a PC you’ve already successfully activated Windows 10. If you are installing Windows 10 on a PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista, or if you need to create installation media to install Windows 10 on a different PC, see Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 10 on a different PC section below. Note: Before you install Windows 10, check to make sure your PC meets the system requirements for Windows 10. We also recommend going to the PC manufacturer's website for any additional info about updated drivers and hardware compatibility. Select Download tool, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool. On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next. After downloading and installing, the tool will walk you through how to set up Windows 10 on your PC. All Windows 10 editions are available when you select Windows 10, except for Enterprise edition. For more information on Enterprise edition, go to the Volume Licensing Service Center. If you don't have a license to install Windows 10 and have not yet previously upgraded to it, you can purchase a copy here: www.microsoft.com If you previously upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC and you’re reinstalling it, you don’t need to enter a product key. Your copy of Windows 10 will automatically activate later using your digital license. When Windows 10 is ready to install, you’ll see a recap of what you’ve chosen, and what will be kept through the upgrade. Select Change what to keep to set whether you would like to Keep personal files and apps, or Keep personal files only, or choose to keep Nothing during the upgrade. Save and close any open apps and files you may be running, and when you’re ready, select Install. It might take some time to install Windows 10, and your PC will restart a few times. Make sure you don’t turn off your PC." I Think I have to use the media creation tool to download the W10 version she needs. What I am seeing here may well be different when I am in her computer via TeamViewer and I will get to see different things because hers is W7 and I am W10. Find out in about 6-8 hours

2019-12-06 05:43:00 | What I am seeing here may well be different when I am in her computer via TeamViewer and I will get to see different things because hers is W7 and I am W10 It will be different because the page already knows you are using W10. Doesn't matter what you do it WILL download the files, approx 3.4GB, store them and then install. This method is not as good a fresh install as any problems with W7 wont be fully resolved, it can simply copy over faults. Doing it Via the ISO often fails, as it pops up saying you cant upgrade from the ISO. But it does upgrade from the site. (last time I did it to a W7, couldn't do a fresh install as the person had a LOT of programs that you cant get anymore and needed them, and of course no install (exe) files) That's why you select upgrade this PC. All this was done AFTER making a backup Image (with Macrium Reflect) just in case it all turned to custard. Because if the upgrade fails it can make the system unbootable esp if it wont roll back.

2019-12-06 08:42:00 | wainuitech hi. yep I read up on all you said there about 3-4 hour ago. Said the same as you are. I remember when I Dloaded the 1909 ISO and saved to Bootable USB when I tried to do the upgrade it said it can't be done and I have to do it from Open 1903. So I got into open 1903 and used the 'Setup' file in the downloaded .ISO/extracted to a Folder. I had the folder saved to another drive ( the Samsung EVO860 SSD) and not the C Drive. Creating a backup of her existing W7 is good idea and I had considered doing that, hoping she has 2 Drives in her computer, as don't want to save to her C Drive... don't want to create a Partition in it if it is all she has, but will do if no other choice. What you said about Fresh Instal is best is true but for the time being will do the upgrade to W10 as planned. I read in a post a few hour ago that if doing an upgrade from 7 to 10 it is good to save the existing 7 license key (IF she has a COA on her computer or the instal Disc...could have been OEM Pre-installed when she brought it...find out soon) but after doing the Initial update (Upgrade to W10) and its all running, then wipe the Drive and do Fresh Instal of W10, the Digital Licence will already be active for her computer so no problems and having to Validate/Activate. The windows.old that will be created apparently auto deletes itself after 10 days so of a 'rollback' to W7 has to be done it can. Macrium 7 Reflect does a Grand job of that though. Hope she has a 2nd HDD in her computer to be saving these Backups to. Instal/upgrade to W10 requires 30GB usable HDD Space to do its workings. Ok...so I have to get Macrium installed to her computer when I get connected in Teamviewer... and I will spend some time using translator to ask her what she wants to keep, meaning I can throw out what doesn't need to be backed up or carried into the W10 Instal. Once I set the Upgrade started its no TViewer and she will just have to sit it out while the job is done. Her being 75.5 years of age I can't see her C Drive being loaded up with Games and Apps like mine and many others have..I would say it will be not a gaming machine or Vid/DVD Authoring device with Adobe CC Suite installed. But one never knows :D Could be 'The little old Lady from Pasadena' Will find out soon. I will post back after I have set the upgrade into action and when the results become avaiable. Thanks Garry ps: I sent her the link that shows how get the windows media creation tool to do the upgrade, its in French but I had the option to make the sites pages into English so I could read it because on her computer I will be working on a French OS and me no capisco that language. It will all be OK at the end of the day... they say "it will all be over by Christmas" here is the French link in English .... some of the Images are in French but I get the gist of them...I do know some French lingo. cheers www.malekal.com 91JJCzovJAXD4t3csWE
