1488768 2022-10-09 04:33:00 I know with a IT group many of us are into gaming etc . . . or they may have other interests like photography . Speaking of the masses out there . PCs were said to be unpopular and then it may had been laptop's turn . For a typical family or household do they still use much PCs or laptops? That is after the kids leave school / university . We often hear that the kids have a laptop for uni but some adults just use their phone or tablet . Are much families gonna fire up MS Office on a weekend or take their laptop to the coffee shop these days?

Someone spoke to me about my second hand laptop I got several years ago . I just seldom use it and I said some years ago it would prob be my last laptop and if not for my photography there may not be a use of my PC .

Cheers .

1488769 2022-10-09 05:18:00 Mrs uses her phone for some of her stuff at home, BUT look at most offices and where real work is needed, a phone just doesn't cut it.

Try opening several spreadsheets or documents, or accounting programs on a phone all at the same time -- yeah - Nahhhh not going to work.

1488771 2022-10-09 07:22:00 I’d have thought most use has moved to laptops now . Work has . Kid has, wife has . I have a “desktop” that is mostly a light’s out server now . Runs vms . One of them is my desktop . Which I rdp from a laptop .

Doesn’t bother me .

1488772 2022-10-09 08:12:00 Horses for courses. I'm stuck at home and much prefer the desktop. Faster, more storage capability and a larger monitor. Laptops to me are just toys and I never have any use for them away from home. Bryan (147)

My work laptop, while it doesn’t have the storage, quite happily drives 2 24” screens. And if I can be bothered also the laptop screen.

But storage is on the sever system I connect to via rdp.

1488774 2022-10-09 17:27:00 Wife works from home and accounts work and spreadsheets would be a PITA on a tablet. I do a bit of stuff with TOPO maps and occasionally some drawing of parts to make which would be very hard to do on a tablet. Most other stuff we do on our phones, apart from watching videos, I refuse to do that on my phone as the screen is just way too small. gary67 (56)
1488775 2022-10-09 20:33:00 For sure......it's on the way out.
Yes business people do...but that's a small part of usage.

And now, I have had supermarket delivery people, couriers, tradies turn up and do stuff on tablets or phones.
No-one lugs a laptop around now.

Back at the office, yes, a phone or tablet isn't easy to use there....
Granddaughter now gave up, she has a playstation for gaming and used phone for everything else.

She did have a PC and laptop before.

1488776 2022-10-10 05:22:00 I think I might have a pc problem. Have a gaming PC I use for most things, a media PC in the lounge for streaming and music / videos / some gaming, a NUC that used to do the same job in the bedroom but currently is unemployed, a laptop that can game ok for when I'm away from home but really is just used for an occasional movie in bed, and a tablet that I use for email and browsing etc in the bedroom because it's easier than booting up the laptop :)

And there's only me at home....

Sounds about right, what's wrong with that.
