1488166 2022-09-03 08:03:00 Watched Serena Williams last game today. She lost to an unseeded player, Ajla Tomljanović. Not the greatest game in the tournament so far, but, history I suppose. Never had a lot of time for her as it always seemed it was all about Serena and always looked as if she was completely bored.

The crowds went wild! She is a New Yorker so that's a good enough reason. Signs saying G.O.A.T. all over the crowd. She was good but should have given up a couple of years ago before the decline started. Made a lot of money!! $94M in prize money, $350M in endorsements.

She missed out on what she really wanted, the title of most grand slams but her 23 couldn't beat Margaret Court's 24. As far as titles go, she was miles behind Court. She had 73 career titles as opposed to Courts 192.

Just my thoughts

1488167 2022-09-05 00:29:00 Thanks ,kenj, for stats re Margaret Court's career titles of 192 - I had not realised that many. If tennis fans members have not seen it, I recommend the film (I watched it on a public library DVD before it came to big screens here) Battle of the Sexes. It features Bobby Riggs who won singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles at Wimbledon in 1939.
He made a loud claim that even at an advanced age a good man could always beat a champion woman. By that time, he was a multiple vitamin pills poppier.
The film is not only about his matches against Margaret Court and Billie Jean King but also cover women pioneers for better rights for women tennis players.
