| 1487867 | 2022-08-17 08:58:00 | Staff and members of Kawerau Fitness - KFit - are thrilled to announce a grant of $10,000 from NZCT for new gym equipment. "We sought funding from NZCT in order to provide the safest possible equipment to our community," says Kawerau Fitness Community Trust chairman Zachan Herewini. "After years of use, our equipment has started to deteriorate to the point where it was no longer of an adequate standard, so we decided to prioritise the replacement of this gear as a health and safety issue for our members. "Much of our current equipment is over ten years old. HERE (sunlive.co.nz) Cant see how the Kawarau Boys and Girls would wear out a set of weights in 10 years? I think its for more Mirrors. |

Dumbbells can also break with repeated use. Most likely, it is the aerobic gear which is in need of replacing - cycles, treadmills, steppers, rowers and elliptical trainers. Most of these would need replacing after 10 years or so. Weight stack machines last a long time also but the upholstery needs replacing over time. $10000 would not go far on some of the equipment so it seems likely it is not the aerobic gear needing replacing... |

I washed weights....they were plastic filled with concrete and then got soaked in a mild acid bath to get any leaked concrete off. I fished them out (with a crane - they were in big baskets) and dried them off and packed them in crates. Gym? I worked in one, lol. Sometimes I assembled equipment as part of checking them.... So the plastic can deteriorate, not all weights are solid metal lumps. |
