1487541 2022-07-22 03:45:00 Amongst my collection of computers are two HP G3 laptops, 1x11", & a 1x14". Both have the same processor. One is on Windows 10 home, and the other on Mint Cinnamon 20.3
If they have not been used for some time they will not boot. A smack on the bottom with a hand, and everything is back to normal.
I have cleaned the connections on the keyboards & batteries, also the screens. Made no difference. They both work fine if used regularly.

Has anyone any sensible suggestions?

1487542 2022-07-22 04:17:00 Bit of a long shot, but what type of drives are in them mechanical or SSD ?

Also what are the conditions like where they live ( cold damp etc)

1487543 2022-07-22 11:08:00 Yeah if they have hard drives it could be stiction between the heads and platter.

Although I'm pretty sure most drives have headstack unload ramps these days?

LOL, I'll tell my brother. He is having problems with his very new HP printer.
Ugh, HP....but A)Linux and B)number of pages and C)Budget and D)the dire lack of availability of the things lately......sadly it ticked his boxes.

A bit smacking would be great

Drives are Samsung BJNB4RR mmcblk0p1 (soldered in)
RAM 4GB (soldered in)
Intel 1.6 ghz x2 core (soldered in)
Only difference, apart from the screen size, is the touchpads, one i Synaptics & the other Elan.
Kept in living room on shelf with several others.

1487547 2022-07-25 03:22:00 will not BOOT , or will not POST ?

could be power socket issues, a smack could wiggle it enough for a better contact.
try a wiggle instead of smack
or HD issues , as noted above
