He was always a hero to me in that I lived i n the dread of Warsaw Pact invading West Germany He was still in 1999 committed to communism but in a more democratic form. I remember he ordered the Soviet garrisons in East Germany to remain i n barracks rather than help Honnecker brutally suppress the 1989 protests which led to collapse of the Berlin Wall. | Neil F (14248) | ||
