1488022 2022-08-26 23:41:00 Bought this monitor just over a year old and it has developed this annoying intermittent no display issue:

1. It does not 'wake' up from 'sleep' after my computer is on 'sleep'. need to perform a hard reset of my PC; sometimes, it needs to hard reset my PC for 2~3 times just to wake up the monitor.
2. On many occasions, it doesn't even display anything at all when I start up my computer, got to repeat the starting process 2~3 times...
3. Sometimes, it's 'dead' , no display at all, even after restarting ... I had to unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and waited a a few minutes before I reconnect it, it then works ... annoying ...

Most annoying part is, as it is INTERMITTENT, no one knows when it's going to fail ... it may be a week or two, days, sometimes, 2~3 times within one day...

I sent it back to Computer Lounge two days ago and when I rang them earlier this morning, I was told that it is still on their bench testing it as they can't recreate the problems mentioned.

Googled and found that it's quite a common issue among Dell monitors ... annoying .....

Don't how long am I going to leave it on their bench .... ????

What are your views, suggestions, technically wise people in this forum?

1488023 2022-08-27 00:31:00 2 things are suggested by Google

1 Reset the Monitor Energy Settings

2 Disable the Monitor Sleep Mode

You may have tried these already , but if not, here's the link

1488024 2022-08-27 00:49:00 Thanks, bevy121.

The monitor is now with Computer Lounge. It is sitting on their bench for testing .... they are hoping to recreate the problem but God knows when is it going to happen!

If they can't identify the problem, and they won't replace it with a new one, I will have to take it back and try the trick in your link.

I thought they know what the problem is and have got a solution (since it's a 'known' issue) but apparently, no.

Computer Lounge has got a good reputation in after sales service, but I can't see it ...

First time having to contact their after sales service dept.

Here's how it goes, A supplier uses standard tests recommended by the manufactures in this case DELL, if it passes all tests there are others that can be done. BUT if its Intermittent and cant be reproduced no one will know if its fixed or not.

NOW if its totally Intermittent and THEY cant reproduce the fault what do you expect them to do ??

You may say replace it, well when its a warranty, Not many shops will simply give you another new monitor looking near $800 because you say it shuts down. The shops runs a warranty through the Manufacture. Being Dell , they may simply say " OK its a known fault, replace it" Then again Dell may say Send it back to them so they can test it or replace it.

Over the years I've had a few cases where something plays up at a customers location, but cant reproduce the problem back at my workshop, the fault was actually something at the location, NOT the device.

If computer Lounge cant come to the party, try calling Dell, if its a known fault they may sort it.

1488026 2022-08-27 03:17:00 For what it's worth, four years ago I had a good experience with Dell after my 27" monitor packed up well within the warranty period. I contacted the supplier (Ascent Technology), they contacted Dell who accepted that the fault warranted a replacement. A new monitor arrived within a few days, packed in a box that could be used to return the faulty item. Since then, no further problems. Jayess64 (8703)
1488027 2022-08-27 05:58:00 Apologies if you tried this already, but since you didn't explicitly say:
Did you try a different cable or monitor on your PC? I have a couple of spare HDMI cables at home, and never had noticeable problems with either for years (although used infrequently). Randomly picked one in lockdown to drive a spare (coincidentally also a Dell) monitor to my home laptop to reproduce my work setup. I had random issues when the monitor just went to sleep while apparently working perfectly, or didn't wake up. The monitor was surplus to my son's requirements and he'd just left it with me, so I suspected it, because playing around with the monitor always seemed to get things working again.

Then the problem returned more often. I dug out the other HDMI cable and tried it, and the problems disappeared.

1488028 2022-08-27 06:46:00 What motherboard are you using? My partners son has the same issue occasionally. Removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes to let it drain fixes the issue. Annoying. But a good reason to leave it on 24/7 the_bogan (9949)
1488029 2022-08-27 10:00:00 MushHead: I have tried using different cables, Display Port cable, HDMI cable... same results. Problem is, can't see immediate results, got to leave it for days ...

Have also tried it on different PCs .

1488030 2022-08-27 11:48:00 So have you seen the fault exhibited on other PC's that have been connected to the monitor in question?

Because that is what you need to confirm. To me it seems like a PC fault. I had a PC monitor combination that was exhibiting this behaviour you are talking about years ago and thought it was the monitor that was faulty but it turned out to be the PC motherboard.

It would do the fault very rarely and randomly but I had to move house and left that computer switched off for about three weeks, after that time it wouldn't work at all. turned out to be a bad solder joint on the motherboard by the RAM sockets.

1488031 2022-08-27 21:38:00 Same problem when connected to other PC.
Quite positive that the problem is with the monitor.

Problem is, the problem won't show up immediately, ...
