| 8243 | 2001-01-31 12:59:00 | Hi, Over the past year since I have had problems with the AGP card on my IBM Pentium III 733 Mhz, 128mb RAM, 19 Gb Hard Drive Windows 98 SE, S3 SR9 Xtreme 16Mb SGRAM AGP Video Card. My System chipset is VIA Technologies Inc VT82C69/693A/693A/694X Apollo Pro/133/133A System Controller (I hope this helps) From what I can work out is that I'm having problems with the Hardware Accelation on my SR9 Xtreme- 16MB SGRAM Video Card. If I have the Hardware Accelation on Full under the START > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings Tab > Advanced button > Performance tab, everything on my computer locks up after 25 minutes in Windows 98 SE. then I have to reboot my computer which is a pain. If I turn the Hardware Accelerator to None my computer will run fine except that I can't play any computer games ( e.g. Escape from Monkey Island from LucasArts) that require a 3D Hardware Accelerator. Is it possible to have the Hardware Accelerator on full without the computer locking up at all in Windows 98 SE ? I have upgraded to DirectX 7.0a. I have also tried to upgrade my AGP card drivers from IBM (www.ibm.com) and from Number Nine Technology (http:) which didn't fix my problem. I even tried to upgrade my drivers from Microsoft which had instead override the drivers that I installed from IBM's web site to the one my computer originally came with when I first got it. Thanks, Paul P.S The Details for my Video Card are... S3 Video Chip: Savage4 GT/Pro(395-398) Display Memory Size: 16 Mb Display Memory Type: SGRAM/SDRAM SR9 Xtreme- 16MB SGRAM Manufacturer: Number Nine Visual Technology Chip Type: Savage 4 Rev DAC Type: Internal DAC Memory: 16 MB Software version: 4.0 Current files: cool.drv, *vdd, *vflatd, cool9.vxd |

| 8244 | 2001-07-05 11:29:00 | I've had similar problems with my pc. At first i found a solution in tuning down my graphics card in the bios. I have a 32 mb matrox but i had to set it to 8mb in the bios in order for my pc to work properly. After some time, i've read about the problem when the 4-in-1-driver from via wasn't installed. Installing this resolved all my problems, and i could set the bios settings back to normal (32mb) hope this also helps for you :) |
