| 8415 | 2001-02-07 00:39:00 | Since putting my old modem into a different computer it dials out but seems to be ringing the wrong number and won't connect.Have tried it in another computer with the same results.Tried an external modem,no problems. It's a ktx 56k internal modem about a year old and was working on my last computer before an apparent motherboard problem.Could my old computers crashes stuffed the modem? Is there anything that can be done to correct the problem or is it time for a new modem.I'm running windows 98 on a pentium mmx 166mghz(I think that's right).I'm on a very limited budget.Any advice on best value for money if I have to replace the internal modem, the external I'm using is on loan. Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice. Tom |

(Right mouse click, properties ....) Select this option and save. Double click on icon. When the window comes up type AT &F <enter> (temporaary uses default settings) If you can't see anything on screen when typing don't worry at this stage. Type AT <enter>. OK should be returned. If you see nothing try AT E1 <enter>. If still nothing then you must have a hardware problem (perhaps an interupt or stuffed modem) or perhaps the COM port is wrong. Internal modems should be com3 or com4 (normally). If you get all the ok's above then type a phone number manually. ATDT 087303030 (for example) you should see modem connect press F7 to continue. At least this way you can SEE what is happening. If you can't hear anything then type ATL3M1 <enter> (again OK should be returned.) Apologies for short and simple answer but modem support is very long winded via typing. I must create a document to email. Another option is to hassle your ISP for help (if they have a free helpdesk) |
