| 8517 | 2001-02-09 05:09:00 | I have a friend who told me that some cheap modem uses ur cpu's power for decoding or something, is this true?? Does it make a noticeable difference on the perfomance of my com?? | Guest (0) | ||

But that wont effect your computers preformance much, it will how ever make your internet connection alot slower. If you want a nice fast connection on any computer buy a ISA modem. Aboutt he same price but these lil babys come with there own lil cpu you could say in a manner of speaking. Or grab a Lucent modem, they make awsome PCI modems HIH |

| 8521 | 2001-02-11 12:08:00 | well it does I think. if you have software modem in runs itself from the cpu while a hardware modem does not.. so if you playing and online game and you have a software modem and onboard sound for instance.. your cpu might not be able to handle it all and drop something.. ie ur sound goes in ur game, u get a disconnect or the game freezes... this is what used to happen to me.... it suxed |

| 8522 | 2001-02-11 23:48:00 | OK u got me... How do we distinguish between a Win Modem and a Hardware modem??? I have a Dynalink 56K PCI internal modem. Is that a win modem? My online gaming is relatively good and I'm probably one of the better NZ host on the Zone. But I paid around $150 for mine (I think - can't remember exact amount). |
