I have an old 486/100 64 ram. I got a new modem installed and go thru free isp's. It is REAl slow how do i check out it is ok an/or speed it up? |

Anything slower than about a Pentium 150 requires an ISA or external modem. Most cheap modems are now PCI ones without 'controllers' - they use the computers CPU a fair bit.
So: is it ISA? And is your 'connect speed' correct. eg. about 52,000 for a 56.6 modem. |

How does one go about finding out what sort of modem they have? I am relatively computer illerate. |
