8653 2001-02-12 21:17:00 Can anyone tell me what, 'A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0293C3A in VXD NTKERN (08) + 0007DFA. The current application will be terminated.', means.

This happened while I was trying to reload win98SE from files located at C:\windows\options\cabs .

The message occured right at the end of the reload and now my computer always tries to pick up where it left off, only to come to a stop again displaying the same message.

Most frustrating, but obviously I need to solve the error message problem before proceeding further.

In anticipation - Thanks.

8654 2001-02-12 22:04:00 Just a guess. Have you updated win98se from the windows update site?
If you have it's possible you are trying to replace new files with older versions from options/cab.
Windows doesn't like this and throws up the fatal exception message.
I have found by trial and error that the only satisfactory way to repair Windows is a complete removal and re-instal.
I know it's a hell of a job,I've recently done it, but the only way to get everything right is 'Format C'
After spending two days at it everything works like new.
Trying to patch it won't work satisfactraly.
Jack.
