8646 2001-02-12 10:23:00 I am trying to install Red Hat Linux 6.2 onto a Pentium 150Mhz computer with 80Mb of Edo RAM. I have 2 Hard drives,a new Segate 10Gb and the orginal NEC 2.1GB.I am using the 10Gb HDD with windows 98 operating system and have completely cleared the 2Gb disk ready to install Linux.(10Gb is master and 2.1 is slave). When going through the installation process Linux seems to identify all the correct hardware for the system, takes me through the entire set up procedure then at the very end screen, about files that are loading, it loads 5 files then freezes.
I have used CRTL-ALT-F4 to see what is going own and the following message appears
'<4> hdc lost interrupt.'
I am assuming this is a CD Rom drive issue (CDRom is a Lite-On 12x).
The confusing thing for me is that the CDRom has no problems in Win98 and it is detected by Linux at the start of the process.I have checked all the components of my computer against the Linux compatiability lists and although my system is fairly dated there should no conflict. I have also tried a Red Hat 7.0 Linux just to verify I didn't have a faulty disk and with that one I don't even get to the installation menu before the message '<4> hdc lost interrupt' appears. Would be grateful for any ideas as I fairly new to computer technology and Linux.
Thanks in advance
Dave.

Check that both of your hard drives are sharing the same IDE channel, and that your CDROM drive is using a seperate IDE channel. I have heard of device conflicts occurring between hard drives and CDROM drives during installation when the two devices are sharing an IDE channel.
