8791 2001-02-15 18:39:00 I would be grateful if any reader is able to help me to access a file to which I keep
denied access. It is an Excel file stored on a floppy disk. I recently opened the file, worked on it,saved the changes and closed it. On closure a blue screen appeared with an error message on [ Unfortunately I can't recall the message].
Consequently every time I try to open the file I get a message on screen telling me the file cannot be accessed, that it may be a read only file or I may be trying to access a read only location or that the server the document is stored on may not be responding. All other files on the floppy can be accessed and closed as normal. I have
applied a thorough scan disk to the floppy and have defragged it all to no avail. One other factor which may or may not be significant is that not long before this
irregularity,my computer was infected by a virus but I had this repaired.Accessing the Excel file then closing it was the first use of the A drive since the viral attack.
This may be just coincidental but I have decided to mention it.

8792 2001-02-15 23:39:00 It is most likely that the file structure was damaged during the interrupted file/save, and as a result Excel can no longer recognise it.
This is usually fatal to any meaningful data recovery from the file.
Saving directly to a floppy is not the best way to go as Excel files can be quite large.
Better to save to a Hard Disk first, then copy across.
