8784 2001-02-15 08:57:00 Hello, (1st time user of this space, sorry)
I desire to build a fast, clean $3k budget video editor. I'm beginning with nothing.
Based in Dunedin the hardware access is limited and the skills a little thin on the ground.
Would some kind soul please direct me to a wise man with knowledge re: DV/Analogue editors.
Please, and very much thank you.
P.S. Thanks PCWorld for the 'I am Peter Jackson' article June 2000, helped a lot.

8785 2001-02-18 02:49:00 Hi Craig,
I too have been investigating the building of a video editing system for some months now, and like you,I have posted for some help but I never got any replies.
Either no-one knows anything or it just isn't that popular.
As I said I have been researching the subject for several months now and because of the large costs involved I have not rushed into anything. I have amassed considerable volume of information on the subject and you and anyone else interested can send me their e-mail addresses and I will forward on what I have found out. It would help if you could tell me which area you are interested in i.e. Home moviemaking or more professional stuff. Reply to bill.cheryll.cox@xtra.co.nz if you are interested.
Cheers

8786 2001-02-27 01:16:00 Dear Billy C.

Thanks for writing back, man, sometimes I wonder, y'know!?!

Yeah, I've been collecting some data for a while now, too. 133Hz motherboards, buckets of SDRAM, DV Capture Cards, 0.25 monitors, blah blah blah, but so far I haven't been convinced about the durability and expandability of what I've found, nor have I felt very confidant about the PC builders that I've met.

I'm about to plug into the local Cine & Video club (I'm Dunedin based)
Apparently a couple of their members have already built or bought commercial editors; I'll scope it out, and get back to you, yeah?!

And here I am, now really needing an editor, (I'm semi-pro with a back-log of clients) The pressure builds up and those really weird visions I have in my head, man, they just won't go away!

Hey, write back, wherever the heck you are and we'll exchange info & ideas!
Thanks for the connection, Billy C. Its nice to know I'm not alone :~)

Later...
