| 9154 | 2001-02-25 02:27:00 | The complete stupidity of the DVD zone system is clear for all to see in NZ. Video Easy outlets rent both zone 1 (USA) and zone 4 (NZ) DVD's so if you got a single zone DVD driver you only can watch half of their DVD's Thanks Yanks you shafted the planet again. | Guest (0) | ||

Non-zoned drives are available so check them out carefully before buying. If you computer is equiped with a DVD drive, it is possible to remove the zone restrictions by applying a firmware update. These updates are available on the internet but should be carried out with extreme care since this could render the drive unusable. A good site is DVD box, dvd.box.sk First download and run the 'Drive Region Info utility' to identify your drive and any region restriction. Search the database for the correct firmware update and apply the patch. Another good site to check out for DVD-ROM firmware is DVD Digest's Regional tools page, www.digital-digest.com it contains an extensive list of drive and updates. Check both pages out thoroughly before selecting and applying an update. |
