| 9135 | 2001-02-24 10:50:00 | I have Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 5 on my computer. I see I can upgrade to V5.5 from xtra. I have read on occasion, of people having problems when they have upgraded their browser and/or their email programme. Does upgrading Explorer also automatically upgrade Outlook Express? Wondering whether anybody can tell me if this new version has many new features and whether it is worth upgrading. Also, do I uninstall my current version? if so, do I do it before downloading the new version or after, and do I do it in the Add/Remove programme found in the control panel? Thankyou in anticipation for your patience and advice :-) | Guest (0) | ||
| 9136 | 2001-02-24 22:41:00 | 1) YES IE5.5 upgrade does also upgrade Outlook Express 2) NO you don't have to uninstal, the IE installer takes care of that for you and backs up your old version. 3) Is it a good move? in my experience... NO! Recommendation:- If IE5 works ok for you STICK WITH IT. I went down that road some time back and as a result the spellchecker in Outlook Express died, tried all sorts of fixes from the Microsoft knowledge base without success and cured the problem in the end by going to Netscape NOTE:- the above is MY personal experience, others have upgraded to IE5.5 with no problems. My pet theories are:- If it works DON'T fix it Newer is NOT always better |
