9316 2001-02-27 09:42:00 I run Windows 95.I have probably abused it too much. This is what happens on StartUp -can you help?????

1.It runs the memory test twice.
2.It now detects my Hard Drive- did not do this 3 weeks ago.
3.Says that there is a CMOS Battery failure-there is not!
4.Says'press DEL to enter Setup or F1 to continue'.
5.When F1 is pressed continues to load successfully BUT repeats the check system screen(all the software that makes up my computer)
6.Of course, then has the odd 'freeze' at times!!

Can anyone help -in simple terms please!!

9317 2001-02-28 12:25:00 Hi there,
I am afraid that I will have to agree with your computer. Sounds like the battery on your motherboard is flat.
This battery is what keeps your BIOs intact when the computer is switched off. If the battery goes flat then the BIOs settings are set to there default on startup, which in most cases causes the symtoms you decribe as they rarly match what your computer requires. However, the batterys are cheep and easy to get, and with a bit of playing in the Bios you should be right.

Perhaps MS is correct at times!!
