1270685 2012-04-18 00:29:00 a little while back i posted about my laptop's battery not holding charge.
pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

sent it away up to auckland for a replacement, got an email back from the people looking at it and they said

"I received the battery yesterday, just tested the battery on our battery testing machine and condition is very good, only been charged 60 times, and I also did charge and discharge testing, condition is all good .

We also tested by using our pc, it can hold charge, so at this stage, I cannot provide replacement battery and I will send it back to you shortly."

they also say that it is either a problem with the power adapter or the motherboard itself

new laptop i guess...

1270686 2012-04-18 00:31:00 Bugger, have you got access to another known good battery (or lappy!) to confirm? KarameaDave (15222)
1270687 2012-04-18 00:34:00 i still have the old battery for the laptop which did the same thing, which is why i bought the extended battery in the first place GameJunkie (72)
1270688 2012-04-18 01:58:00 how would the motherboard cause the issue?? GameJunkie (72)
1270689 2012-04-18 03:18:00 It could be internally shorted I guess and sucking power or not going back to idle when not used. prefect (6291)
1270690 2012-04-18 06:50:00 Battery messages can be very odd at times. My little Asus Eee 701 displays the message "80% charged - you should consider a new battery"! It never had a long working battery life, but is no different now than it was several years ago.
Does your battery charge, and does it hold its charge?
Does it hold its charge if removed from the computer?

1270693 2012-04-18 08:52:00 would you still recommend hp as a laptop brand now?? GameJunkie (72)
1270694 2012-04-18 08:58:00 I don't think I would recommend HP anymore. I would recommend Asus.

Problems I have had with my HP DV5 :

Overheating
Line down middle of screen.
Battery life pathetic even from 'new' - maybe lasted just an hour..?
