1270632 2012-04-17 21:46:00 Hi everyone, normally about every 10 minutes i keep on getting ' the connection was reset "
The connection to the server wa reset while the page was loading
If i go to the task bar and double click on the screen icon and bring up the " Wireless Network conection page " and disconnect and then reconnect the problem fixes itself for only a short time, then it will happen again and again which gets very annoying as you could imaging.
A friend told me to go to the modem router and unplug it for a few minutes, let it cool down, then try again and it works as well but only for a while then the same crap again.

99 percent of the time i use a laptop around the house, but before the using the lapy, i have a normal PC setup
in my bedroom, the modem i have had for a few years [Billion modem] then brought the other routerts thing to be able to be able to use my laptop anywere around the house.

It seems like the old billion modem overheats easily these days so do i need a new modem to fix the problem ? or is there another way around this problem, i am a bit strapped for cash at the moment, but can't put up with this all the time.
If i have to purchase a new modem what would be your recommendations for a new one ?

thankyou very much.

1270633 2012-04-17 22:24:00 So, to get it clear, you have a Billion modem/router connected by ethernet cable to the PC then you added a wireless device to get the wireless capability?

Best to see which bit is causing the problem. Does the PC connected by cable give these errors? If so, it must be the Billion device. If not, it is the wireless device. That will help further diagnosis.

You might also tell us what signal strength you are getting on the laptop.

1270634 2012-04-17 23:56:00 Thanks for your reply, Yes that is correct, i have a Billion modem/router connected by ethernet cable to the PC, which i used for a few years, then later on i added the wireless device [ sorry don't know what you call that ] to get the wireless capability.

The strength says 54 Mbps, signal strength excellent.

Both computors drop out at the same time.

thanks

1270635 2012-04-18 01:55:00 So you have a modem connected to a wireless router and a cable from the wireless router to another PC?

If that's the case, try connecting the Billion modem directly to the PC (not using the wireless router at all) and see if the reset problem occurs.

If it DOES occur with this setup then it is a problem with the Billion modem or your ISP

If it DOESN'T occur there is a problem with the wireless router

OR does the billion device have wireless built in? If it's built in and both wired and wireless disconnect I suggest you borrow a modem from someone to see if its an ISP/line issue or a modem issue

1270636 2012-04-18 01:57:00 That means that it must be the modem/router, as you originally surmised, or the signal coming into the modem or an ADSL port problem at the exchange, or......

It is not easy for you to get much further without gear to sub. I would sub in another modem/router to isolate the problem source, further.

If overheating is suspected, I would remove part of the case and let air get at it to see if that helped.

Buying a new modem could be an expensive troubleshooting method!

You could also ring your ISP to get them to check your line but the modem should be checked first.

Good luck. Someone else may have some more ideas.
