1248384 2011-12-13 07:37:00 Looking to get a new phone, Currently have a Galaxy 5 Running android 3.7. Its done well but its getting to small and annoying. Im surprised I have held on to it for so long!!

Anyway, i'm currently eyeing up an SGS2 or Nexus S, the thing is its easy to find info on the high end 'droids but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about some of the high-mid range models, similar I guess to the Galaxy S specs.

Also if anyone has a WP7 device that they reccomend i'd be interested to hear about. The missus got a HTC Trophy 7 and I was having a play. I must say that I really like the UI. From what I have seen If I was recommending a smartphone to the older generation i'd do WP7 over droid and iOS. The devices in general seem to be nicer and the UI is clean, simple and they don't need glasses to read the screen (usually).

Cheers

I have an HTC Trophy myself, it's awesome, especially with Mango :D

If you're after a front facing camera on Windows Phone though, the best you can do at the moment is parallel-import an HTC Radar or Titan.

1248387 2011-12-13 08:42:00 Since you mention the Galaxy S2 and Nexus S, I'm guessing budget is pretty open?

The Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation are both great phones, imo. A friend recently got the Trophy and it seems awesome, too. He's had an iPhone 4 and a Desire previously, and so far prefers the Trophy over either. Nokia's N9 is really good, too, but has limited app support atm.

1248388 2011-12-13 18:13:00 Why not the Galaxy Nexus? Chilling_Silence (9)
1248389 2011-12-13 19:40:00 Why not the Galaxy Nexus?

Either would be OK but I guess it's when he needs it. Now = SGS2. 2 Months = Galaxy Nexus but it's a toss of the coin as the SGS2 is supposed to be getting Android 4 early next year..

1248390 2011-12-13 20:10:00 The Galaxy Nexus looks awesome, but I'm not sure it's worth the (probable initial) 50% price hike over the GS2, especially if the talk of GS2 getting 4.0 in Q1 2012 turns out to be true. inphinity (7274)
1248391 2011-12-13 20:26:00 I'm not worried about the arrival of ICS to the SGS, with it's "high profileness" if you like it wont take long for Cyanogen and other mods to compile a ROM for the SGS 1 and too. Not sure about the SGS1 though, might not happen or be as smooth.

Budget is relatively open however I am not unlimited. Just wanted to know what was out there. I am going over to china again and usually you can get a few hundred off the NZD price but with christmas around the corner they are really quick to jump to a deal since they need the $$

Right now I can get an SGS2 new in NZ for about 700, china is the same, about 700 so ill probably get it from kiwiland if I go with the Galaxy.

Problem with asia is they dont have an 850MHz HDSPA network so unless the phone is a full quad band you dont get XT coverage (no voda coverage at my place) found that the hard way with my 1st galaxy :p

1248392 2011-12-13 20:40:00 I have the original SGS, already running ICS since the SDK builds. Runs brilliantly. Dunno why they can't put it on the original Nexus One, considering the hardware spec is very similar... Chilling_Silence (9)

Both the SGS2 and Galaxy nexus are quad band and will work on all NZ carriers. Earlier fones are a turkey shoot..
