| 1247906 | 2011-12-10 07:10:00 | Gidday. Looking at scoring a Samsung Galaxy Ace. Not flash, but then ya don't take Michelle Pfeiffer out on your first date aye! :D Just wondering how the whole O/S thing works. It has Andriod 2.2. Can it be updated to 2.3 or are you stuck with whatever version is on the phone when you buy it? Software - will I need to d/l a software package to manage this, and music/apps etc? Music - can I load on phone whatever the 'package' above or apps gives me, or can I tsf music on my lappie to it as well? Oh yeah - is a screen protector plastic thingy advisable, or are the screens pretty tough? I always end up with air bubbles in the damn things! :p Anything else this virgin needs to know?? Cheers AB |

Otherwise you might be able to install a 3rd party ROM (although this is at your own risk!!!) 2) You can just use the Android Market to download software directly onto the phone - nothing else required 3) You can just stick your music on it and play it using whatever media player you want - Android is very flexible 4) I had a screen protector for a while, but have subsequently taken it off. Screens these days are pretty durable, so long as you don't abuse them. |

Can I also assume that I buy 2.2 and update it immediately to 2.3 given it's been released? |

Provided the manufacturer has released the 2.3 update for the model phone you get, yes you can update straight away. |

| 1247912 | 2011-12-10 20:30:00 | Yeah but keep in mind that unless you're going to fork out for a top-end phone, you're not likely to keep on the latest (Ice Cream Sandwich). It's not the end of the world for most people, but basically as long as you have 2.2 (When the major performance improvement came in terms of the JIT compiler), you'll be fine. According to GSMArena it can be upgraded to 2.3: www.gsmarena.com One thing to keep in mind is when you copy music across, you can put it anywhere you want, you don't have to "sync" it across. Just use it like a USB Thumbdrive, pop it on your phone by plugging it in, and that's it! No putting it in special places or whatever, Android will find your music no matter where you put it on your phone! Easy! :) |

| 1247913 | 2011-12-10 20:47:00 | Thanks Chill. I don't need a high-end phone. I spent $1k on a phone years ago (Palm Treo) and regretted it ever since. I'm assuming this one I'm looking at will keep me with the cool kids for a few years until Lotto comes through... re: music. I assumed that the phone/software is idiot-proof and I'll just chuck music into the software where it tells me to and it will put it on the phone where it's meant to be. From what you're saying it might even be easier than that.. It comes with a 2GB SD card. How many songs do ya reckon I could load onto that? Don't need to get a larger one if I don't need it... |

| 1247915 | 2011-12-11 02:31:00 | If you have it setup to appear as a USB Thumbdrive when you plug it in (I HATE Kies!) then you can put the music anywhere on there at all, and Android will find it :) | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
