| 1248014 | 2011-12-11 00:09:00 | I can't believe your slagging deaf people off when there are much more important things going on in NZ like EQC appointing 19 year old's as assessors and paying them $75/h+110 out of town benefits just because they are the child of someone high up more here (www.stuff.co.nz) | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1248015 | 2011-12-11 00:33:00 | Trev is the only one that has realised that, like many deaf people, lip reading is a skill they learn at an early age, so I imagine that's how she will be able to keep up with what's going on . Nope - not even close . Lip reading works on the premise that you understand the language you are lip reading . If you are born deaf and never heard language being spoken to you - how on earth are you going to link a lip pattern to a word or concept? Mojo wont be relying solely on lip reading as that would be impossible in a debating chamber . To get where she has so far she would have been in these situations many times before and I am sure she has a strategy to ensure she is kept informed in all aspects of her job . |

| 1248017 | 2011-12-11 01:05:00 | You really are a [edited] aren't you . Never happy with anything and always moaning, and I really think this just takes the biscuit and is offensive beyond belief that you are complaining that a deaf person is making their way in life and its going to cost you some money to pay for a translator . Well I'll tell you what send me your details and I'll pay your $2/year contribution to breaking down barriers and predjuices . . . thank god she isn't black, brown, yellow or anything other colour otherwise you'd have a field day i'm sure . . . oh hang she wears galsses . . . that ok ? God its just like Phnom Penh 1978 . . . "I've said it before, there is no need to get personal or abusive on here . " - and if Mojo Mathers uses this forum you dont think she would find your original post personal ? Yes you'll report my post and yes i'll get banned but Digby I concur with KarameaDave you really are a pompous ass . I don't think you are describing me correctly as pompous - here are some defintions . pompous adjective 1 . characterized by an ostentatious display of dignity or importance: a pompous minor official . 2 . ostentatiously lofty or high-flown: a pompous speech . 3 . characterized by pomp, stately splendor, or magnificence . And I have never reported anyone on PF1 |

It boggles the mind as to how a conversation about someone working in an everyday profession who happens to be deaf sparks personal insults... :stare: |

| 1248019 | 2011-12-11 02:36:00 | what is even more amazing is how some contributors on this forum deliberately misconstrue what has been said to suit their own personal agendas. sadly, it is like play skool here at times :( :( |

Shows how much you don't know. My nephew was born deaf and can lip read very well, he could lip read well before he got his cochlear implant |

| 1248022 | 2011-12-11 03:09:00 | sadly, it is like play skool here at times Add parliament to that as well :D Some of the ways "they discuss things" make you wonder. The deaf MP concerned, no doubt wont have any problems, its others that usually cant accept a person with a disability (any Disability sometimes) that have the problem. |

My nephew was born deaf and can lip read very well, he could lip read well before he got his cochlear implant I would question how profoundly deaf he is. If lip reading was was possible without hearing the language try lip reading a chinese person (assuming you dont speak mandarin or cantonese). My wife is profoundly deaf and her lip reading skill is dependant on the person she is talking to. |
