You do not want to devalue your house so stick to basic carpet in all living areas and lino (or lino tiles) in the wet areas. Don't recarpet until you are ready to sell the house, otherwise the dogs may mark the floors. | Jen (38) | ||

Standard cork tiles with five coats of moisture cure polyurethane will seal everything. The other thing is pre-finished cork tiles are not a very good quality of cork. |

| 1247967 | 2011-12-12 10:30:00 | Just a quick question beetle: is the subfloor concrete throughout? That isn't quite clear from your descriptions. We have a mix of tongue & groove and particle board flooring upstairs, and concrete downstairs. Our floor coverings have proved very durable, and. upstairs is mainly carpet with cork tiles in the kitchen, dining and bathroom. Downstairs we have carpet apart from the bathromm and that is cork tiles again. After 23 years we are only now on our second lot of carpet, but the cork tiles are still as new. They were sealed with a moisture cure polyurethane and it simply doesn't wear. They are great for kitchens, laundries and bathrooms/toilets. If you have glued down vinyl you could carpet over that no sweat, but I wouldn't try that fake wood, better to do a reasonably economic wool carpet in fact, as a buyer would probably rip anything else up as soon as they moved in and would negotiate the price accordingly.
