1270339 2012-04-19 07:42:00 I have a Dick Smith USB 56k modem which I use with W7 to send Fax's and operate a phone dialer. Works very well, just plugs in, no setting up required. They are about $45. mzee (3324)

1270341 2012-06-06 06:10:00 I share your pain as I have a need for these in larger quantities for a commericial deal. Other brands don't suit - too large, won't connect, etc.
For those that only think boadband there is still a large market for 56k dial up for telemetry systems or low volume text style communications between businesses. In this instance the 56k modem can dial an 0800 number at no cost to the user. Tell me where you can get an ADSL or cable connection at no cost to the user the and I'll be in.

FYI - Renaissance used to be the NZ distributor but gave it up.

1270344 2012-06-21 10:57:00 Hey message me (or post here the firmware used?)

The commands for firmware versions are

AT13
AT14
AT16

I mis dailup trouble shooting.

Which chassis are you dialing into?

Orcon and Telecom use USR chassis so may be more stable to USR modem

The other ISPs almost exclusively used Lucent Max boxes which may be why an iHug customer was cursing at USR (this may be that a USR was forcing proprietary standard).

That Dynalink modem was awesome and liked both chassis.

Some strings
AT+MS=V34 was a good fallback.

What line quality is it goin through?

Cheers!
