1270287 2012-04-16 06:43:00 You could try the firefox safe mode (support.mozilla.org) approach. Or try firefox portable and toggle between installed version to see if gmail opens. (support.mozilla.org) kahawai chaser (3545)
1270288 2012-04-16 15:14:00 Twelve hours later: remember I'm on Mountain Time in the US --------------------- it's 8AM here right now

I ran the Mobil AP and it's screwed up the same way. It just WON'T load. The little load thermometer won't even make a start at turning blue.

Safe Mode I'll try that next - I forgot about that actually! Can whatever renders that page (the one version that isn't working) be toggled OFF or accidentally modified in some way?

1270289 2012-04-16 23:50:00 I'm not sure about any effect of toggling off between portable and the standard installed version, if that's what you mean. It's what seemed to work for someone from my link above. But if it's portable (as in run via USB pen drive), like most portable apps, (http://portableapps.com/) perhaps can be detached without affecting the installed version. I say this because of a few other portable apps I have used, without affecting the equivalent installed version, e.g. for portable players.

Safe mode (support.mozilla.org) described at Mozilla. There are other approaches for configuring Firefox, which are a little advanced, but may suit:

1. Creating different Firefox profiles, (www.searchenginejournal.com) - desribed here, (support.mozilla.org) useful if you are heavily using a swag of add-ons/grease monkey scripts, primarly for different types of searching. One profile for normal browsing, another for using search addons, and another for annotating sites, etc. Used for grouping similar extensions per profile, and supposedly reduces the risk of crashing/corruption.

2. The about config (kb.mozillazine.org) command, basically a system edit manager for firefox, that can be tweaked for performance. (www.hongkiat.com)I'm sure I found a incorrect setting once, which I set back to default. You may need to check your config settings...but copy/paste backup if you do change any. You may be able to set Gmail (mozillalinks.org) as your client email if suitable. Or you could try restore your default settings. (www.dq.winsila.com)

Otherwise possibly a Gmail issue and browser settings. Wherabouts are you opening it from? Google search engine, toolbar, bookmark, etc. There are also alternative modes, (lifehacker.com) e.g. safe mode.

1270290 2012-04-17 01:38:00 Bulletin: I have lost the whole GMail in Firefox now, and it will only load up in the abbreviated version for slower connections.

This is not the situation in Chrome though where everything is running correctly and as originally set up.

OK - so now I'll try to go back to default mode wherever that is, and see what happens when I'm running my Firefox version of GMail.

About the mobile app: I ran that on my desktop and it wouldn't load just like using my Firefox version. Same-o.

1270291 2012-04-21 02:43:00 Now a new question:::

First though - I haven't been able to repair Firefox/GMail . It's still toasted but runs correctly on Chrome .

IF I import all my bookmarks into Chrome from Google, will they disappear if I totally destroy Google's GMail while I'm on Firefox?

I can't find if they are volatile if I totally wipe Google Firefox and start all over . The option to SAVE all my bookmarks was left checked when I burned down Google, but I'm worried that I'd lose all my favorites if I do it on Google side and can only hope they are left alone on the Chrome side .

Any ideas?

BTW: "Word-Wrap" doesn't work in Chrome and sentences and words just drop to the next line wherever and whenever they feel they like to . That's nuts-o and just drives me crazy . .

1270292 2012-04-21 05:27:00 First export (support.mozilla.org) your bookmarks, i.e. back them up on your PC/USB. Maybe also export/import in Google Bookmarks. (accounts.google.com) GMarks (addons.mozilla.org) may help to import/export from Chrome to Firefox, once you reinstall Firefox.

I think bookmarks reintall automatically somehow, if reinstalling Firefox. They are hidden by default in explorer, and referenced in your user profile, and can be deciphered with a addon. (addons.mozilla.org)

1270293 2012-04-25 06:09:00 I did all that - and still it was screwed up .

I then went ahead and disabled all my add-ons and reinstalled them one-at-a-time and everything's fixed now . I thought maybe one or more of them was holding me from making GMail work - and as yet I have no idea which it was or if one of them WAS the problem in the first place .

Right now I am running:::
