| 1248118 | 2011-12-11 08:57:00 | Well how do you justify this? “Canterbury events manager Reid Stiven, claims manager Gail Kettle and senior manager Barry Searle also have children working as estimators or assessors. Zac Stiven, 19, and Nikki Kettle, in her late 20s, are earning $75 an hour as assessors, while Matt Searle, who had just completed his building apprenticeship when he was employed, is on $60 as an estimator.” Well to start with he is only claiming it. It is yet to be confirmed. If they have completed their building apprenticeship they are obviously qualified enough for the job. Also they are probably only going to be getting these newly graduated students to work because there is a clear shortage of experienced or whatever workers. It's a basic supply and demand thing. So what if they are 19 to late twenties. as long as they are qualified for the job they can and should be paid the full amount as long as they are doing the job to a full and complete standard. To assume they are not working at the required level without any directly related evidence would be pathetic and stupid. |

Same for the whole governement and any 19 year old is never going to have the experience needed in this situation and neither is a builder straight from apprentice school, I've been there and have never met a builder myself included who would know enough straight from apprenticeship to do what they are allegedly being paid huge money to do |

| 1248121 | 2011-12-11 20:14:00 | There wouldnt be many Building Companies that would allow staff of so little experience to price new work, let alone earthquake damaged building repair. Further, there wouldnt be any Insurance Companies who would employ unqualified assessors, let alone pay them $75+hr. As for Brownlee, well lets not forget he claimed the Renas costs were $14m after only a couple of weeks, when the initial salvage was covered by insurers and the Oil clean-up by volunteers. So whos tickling the peter there, assuming $14m had been spent? Its well over time for some accountability in Government. |
