| 1270712 | 2012-04-18 03:16:00 | Hope its not a dumb question. Say I was on holiday in a camping ground and bought some mbs of wireless from the provider like I did at Waitomo at Xmas. Could I tether my Samsung netbook to my Toshiba laptop which has a vodem stuck in it and get access for 2 machines at once. If no one answers I know its a stupid question and the answer is no lol. :stare: |

Haven't done it myself but I'm sure whenever I set a new machine up on my network I've seen something about internet connection sharing. What's a bit harder is telling your machine which connection to use when it has more than one option to get on the internet. Someone else might have to answer that. | dugimodo (138) | ||
| 1270714 | 2012-04-18 05:09:00 | What you really need is a Pocket WiFi device that lets you connect up to 5 devices, oh, just noticed vodafone are out of stock, thats a shame, would have suited your needs - although I bit pricey I suspect unless you use it often. ANyway, I think dugi has it right, if you go into Connection Status screen and click properties, there should be a tab that says 'sharing', you should be able to share the connection once your two computers are networked. How are you connecting your two computers, via cable or adhoc wireless? |

If you've got a 3G Datacard (Vodem stick for example as you mention) then you can share that by turning your PC in to a wifi hotspot. |

Thanks at Xmas we just had the lappie connected by vodem to the camps wifi. So all I need to do is connect an ethernet cable from the lappie to the the netbook and go to share? Ian mentioned adhoc wireless :horrified dont know what that is |

Hopefully most of it should still apply to your case - jamus.co.nz The difference is that you do not need to have a crossover cable as most computer LAN adaptors as gigabit based (they can automatically detect "normal" ethernet cable and do the swapping for you). My main laptop (primary computer) is connected wireless to my Linksys router, while my netbook is connected to the main machine via a LAN cable. Internet access from the netbook is through the cable.
