Looks like they did fix it in the end when heaps of people went after them.
But seriously should this have even happened?

1247436 2011-12-06 20:25:00 PAYPAL: Only a nonprofit can use the Donate button.
ME: That’s false. It says right in the PDF of instructions for the Donate button that it can be used for “worthy causes.”
PAYPAL: I haven’t seen that PDF. And what you’re doing is not a worthy cause, it’s charity.
ME: What’s the difference?
PAYPAL: You can use the donate button to raise money for a sick cat, but not poor people.

That person needs to be sacked.

1247439 2011-12-06 20:45:00 Summary for those too lazy to spend 30 seconds reading the link:
1) Major satire site runs charity drive to raise funds for Secret Santa gifts for poor/underprivileged kids and riases $4000 to buy them gifts for Xmas.
2) Paypal freeze the funds (but still happily take their processing fees from it) because they used the Donate button for "charity" instead of a "worthy cause".
3) Internet kicks up a stink and Paypal come to their senses and unfreeze the account.
