| 9364 | 2001-02-28 20:32:00 | I have a P3 running win98se. When I try to shut down my comp. by clicking shut down/shut down, everything shuts down, than three seconds later it just reboots. This is a new problem. I have had the comp. for several months and it always shut down properly until last week. I have isstalled the shut down patch and I have been right through the ms trouble shooter. No change. I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled win.Everything worked . I then reinstalled all my software, shutting down between all instillations. After installing my sound card the problem re-appeared.I removed sound card software (ForteMedia),but the problem wouldn't go away. I reformatted again and started over. This time when I installed mouse drivers, (LOgitech USB mouse) the problem returned. I have now run out of ideas. The only way I can shut dowm is to wait until it all shuts down and then hit the power button. If I hit the power button at any other stage all it does is cause a re-boot. Jack Gruschow |

I actually apply this 'fix' to all PC's I work on now as a standard error correcting tweak before dealing with the actual problems displayed by the PC. tweakhomepc.virtualave.net |
