9461 2001-03-02 09:15:00 I know just enough to get into trouble it seems. We have a problem with sound on our PC. We have a sound card installed but believe we are missing some settings. Just need some kind person to talk me through the steps required to get the sound up and running again. It has been working in the past, but after a tech did some work we no longer have noise!

Appreciate if someone could assist our family.

Many thanks

9462 2001-03-02 23:18:00 Hmmm

Option 1: take it back to the tech
Option2: check the speakers are working and plugged in
Option 3: check the sound card is securely plugged in
Option 4: supply details including operating system, sound card type and model (from the card itself if necessary) and if a CD-Rom drive is connected to the sound card.

Check also that it is not disabled

While in device manager you like to remove your sound card and restart to see if Windows PnP picks it up. This could solve your problems.

9464 2001-03-08 05:08:00 At the risk of insulting anybody, re Merlin's option2 make sure the speakers are plugged in to the right hole. There are usually 3 back there, and they're hardly ever properly marked. When a tech serviced my mother's pc he plugged it back in the wrong one. It took her a week of fiddling to figure out what had happened. Guest (0)
