9808 2001-03-11 05:38:00 Hi,

I'm having difficulty with the windows update feature! I've tried all the options on the Microsoft web site that I can remember (the page will not display because of security ActiveX problems).

Recently I reinstalled windows and loaded version 5.5 of Internet Explorer immediately after windows loaded, before going to windows update. For some reason none of the solutions on your web site which I tried worked for me. I downloaded a new version of the virtual machine tried to install that, but to no avail it didn't work.

I wondered if purchasing the update to windows 98 second edition (windows millennium) would get around this problem?

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Malcolm.

9809 2001-03-11 23:24:00 Sorry to PCWorld but I have to mention another magazine here. If you have a look at page 131 of the latest PC Authority mag (March 2001 Issue 40) there is a reader query and answer called Out of Update which will probably help you. Guest (0)
9810 2001-03-11 23:31:00 Hi Malcolm,
is there something missing from you windows install, or is it crashing? If not I'd say just forget the whole windoze update thing all together. -Just go to the MS site and see what's available, you might want Directx 8a for example.
If it aint broke, don't fix it I say.

9811 2001-03-12 06:18:00 Had a similar problem. Went to Add/Remove for 5.5 and scrolled down to scripting, clicked on and was told latest version was already installed but I re-installed that anyway and problem is fixed. Iris Guest (0)
