| 9978 | 2001-03-13 02:45:00 | Many months ago I read an article that detailed how to turn off all modem dialing noise and it did work on my computer. I have recently formatted my hard drive and I have now lost this wonderful feature. If I go to CONTROL PANEL - MODEMS - PROPERTIES and set the volume at 'OFF' it is not successful. Can you advise of another method. O/S is Windows 98 SE. Thanx! |

This generally works, but lacks some special features your modem may have, like line speed, speaker volume, call waiting etc. Firstly try going into the Modems control panel, then click properties of your modem (probably standard modem) and click the Connection tab, then click Advanced. In the extra settings tab type either: m0 (Turns off modem speaker) or... l0 or l1 (turns modem speaker off or down very quiet) If this fails try finding the correct driver for your modem, and hopefully it should resolve your 'screeching' modem problem. |
